Esther M. Oakley, 88, Indianapolis, and formerly of Greensburg, passed away Friday morning, December 9, 2011 at Greentree Assisted Living, Indianapolis. She was born in Urbana, Illinois to Harry and Loretta (Peters) Vanderbur.
Esther was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg , and was a charter member of Alpha Alumna Chapter. She was a Secretary for Decatur County Soil & Water District for 15 years and cashiered over 800 farm and estate auction sales for 30 years.
She married Harold L. Oakley on June 22, 1946. He preceded her in death on September 14, 2004. She is survived by two sons, James H. Oakley, San Diego, CA and William J. Oakley, Fort Lauderdale, FL; one daughter, Leann M. Oakley, Indianapolis; three grandchildren, Patricia (Martin) Noack, Michael (Emily) Oakley, and Phillip Oakley; and three great-grandchildren, Mason and Max Noack, and Ari Oakley all of Phoenix, AZ.
Besides her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her brothers, Clarence (Jack) Vanderbur, Louisville, KY, James Vanderbur, Greensburg, and John Vanderbur, Batesville.
Family and friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg. A rosary service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday prior to visitation.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 15, 2011 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greensburg, Rev. John Meyer officiating.
Interment will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
