Leonard B. Schoettmer, Sr., 86, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Aspen Place Health Campus in Greensburg.
He was born in Millhousen on December 3, 1926 to Joseph H. Schoettmer and Frances Elis (Thewes) Schoettmer Kuntz.
Leonard was a retired farmer. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Wagon Train and Outriders Association, the Decatur County Aviation Association, he was a former member of the Knights of St. John and Knights of Columbus in Greensburg, and he was a former member of the Adams Fire Department. Leonard was a former pilot and loved to fly his airplane.
He was married to Mary Joan Harpring on February 26, 1949 and she preceded him in death on March 23, 2005.
Leonard is survived by 5 sons; Steven (Anita) Schoettmer, Greensburg, Stanley (Carol) Schoettmer, Greensburg, Leonard (Jere) Schoettmer, Jr., Greensburg, Charles (Margaret) Schoettmer, Greensburg, Patrick (Mary) Schoettmer, New Egypt, N.J., 2 daughters; Joyce (Duane) Comer, Greensburg, Mary Ann (Rob) Smith, Greensburg, 1 brother; Robert (Kathryn) Schoettmer, Greensburg, 2 sisters; Dorothy Redelman, Greensburg, Lorina Krieger, Greensburg, 20 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 1 son; Joseph Schoettmer, 1 sister; Marie Herbert, 5 brothers; Raymond, Alfred, Lawrence, Edward, and Anthony Schoettmer.
Visitation will be held at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home on Sunday, March 17, 2013 from 1-5:00 p.m. with a rosary service starting at 12:30 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg on Monday, March 18, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. John Meyer officiating
Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Greensburg.
