Elmer J. Nobbe

Elmer J. Nobbe, 96, passed away on Monday, March 18, 2013 at Decatur County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg. Born February 18, 1917 in Hamburg, Indiana, he was the son of Joseph & Frances (Cord) Nobbe. Elmer was a lifelong farmer and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in the South Pacific Islands. He was a lifetime member of the Greensburg V.F.W. He was married to Luella (Haskamp) Nobbe at St. Anne’s Catholic Church on May 6, 1942 in Hamburg, Indiana, and she preceded him in death on December 5, 1981. Elmer is survived by nine children, Gary (Lois) Nobbe, Joan (Dale) Greiwe, Nancy (Mike) Cuskaden, Tim (Kathy) Nobbe all of Greensburg, Deborah (Don) Clarkston of Franklin, In., Norma Nobbe of Batesville, In., Jeanne (Mike) Daniel of Morgantown, In., Deidra (Richard) Cuskaden and Kathleen Power also of Greensburg. He is also survived by 31 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, and two sisters, Rose Denning of Denver, CO., and Bernadine (Don) VanGeison of Battle Creek, MI. Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Roman, Leo, Lawrence, and Ralph Nobbe, and also Clement and Clarence Nobbe in infancy, one sister, Philomena Bogeman, and one granddaughter, Krista (Nobbe) Eldridge. Visitation will be held at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home on Sunday, March 24, 2013 from 2-6:00 p.m. with a rosary service starting at 1:30 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg on Monday, March 25, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. John Meyer officiating. Burial and military graveside rites will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Greensburg. Memorials can be made to the Krista Nobbe Eldridge Scholarship Fund, Hospice of Decatur County, or St. Mary’s Church Building Fund.
