Jerry Dennis Van Nort, 70, of Greensburg, Indiana, entered into Heaven on April 13, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital, Indianapolis, Indiana.
Jerry was born on July 12, 1942, in Middletown, KY to Leroy and Geneva (Highfield) Van Nort.
He graduated from Louisville’s Ahrens Trade High School in 1960.
He married Carol (Reker) Van Nort on February 19, 1966.
He served in the US Coast Guard and was a Lt. with McMahon Volunteer Fire Department in Louisville KY. He was the Assistant Manager at Steepleton’s in Louisville and later transferred his family to Greensburg when he started working for Delta Faucet in 1973. He later started his own business and eventually retired from IUPUI in 2012.
Jerry enjoyed being with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He loved watching sports, particularly Louisville basketball, Colts, and the Reds. He loved traveling. He was a lifelong salesman who never met a stranger, and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He also loved helping others, especially with home repairs.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Van Nort of Greensburg, IN, son Larry (Monica) Van Nort of Zanesville, OH, daughter Karen (Mike) Hand of Indianapolis, IN, a brother William (JoAnn) Van Nort of Mt. Pleasant, SC, his twin sister Betty (Walter) Borders of Louisville, KY, 2 grandsons, Anthony Hand and Dominik Van Nort, 2 granddaughters, Payton Van Nort and Alexa Hand. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Geneva Van Nort.
Visitation is from 4 - 8pm Wednesday April 17th at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home of Greensburg, IN. A rosary service will be held at 3:30 pm on Wednesday.
Funeral Services begin at 10:00 am on Thursday April 18th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg, IN with Rev. John Meyer officiating.
Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Louisville, KY on Friday April 19th at 11:00 am.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or Nationwide Children’s Hospital-Columbus OH.
