Leonard J. Mauer, 100, Greensburg, passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at the Decatur County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg. Born, March 27, 1913 in St. Maurice, Indiana, he was the son of Jacob and Josephine (Berkemeier) Mauer. Leonard was a faith filled man devoted to his family. He loved to fish and garden. He was a farmer, barber, painter, carpenter with Bob Holtkamp, and he worked at Farm Bureau. He was a Veteran of World War II serving in the Army Air Corps. He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church where he had been a Eucharistic minister, taught religious education classes, worked with the marriage encounter group and was honored as "parishioner of the year". He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He volunteered for Meals on Wheels and was a township Farm Bureau leader. He was married to Margaret Schroeder on October 5, 1943 and she preceded him in death on July 19, 2010. He is survived by five sons, Michael Mauer, Greensburg, Roger Mauer, Profret Circle, Ct., Mark (Mary Kay) Mauer, Indianapolis, Timothy (Maria) Mauer, Greensburg, Larry (Patty) Mauer, Terre Haute; five daughters, Angela Kelly, Mt. Prospect, Il., Ruth Ann Cook, Austin, Tx., Mary Jo (Paul) Nieman, Waldron, Judy Mauer, Fortville, Nita Mauer and partner Tina Caldwell, Cincinnati, Oh.; two brothers, Louis T. Mauer, Greensburg, Edwin Mauer, Greensburg; 21 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife; two sisters, Dorothy Mauer, Marie Mauer; one son-in-law, Tim Kelly. Visitation will be from 1-5:00 p.m. Sunday at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg. A public rosary will be prayed at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 29, 2013 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greensburg with Rev. John Meyer officiating. Interment with full military services will be held in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Greensburg, Indiana. Memorials may be made to the St. Mary's School Fund or the Hospice of Southeastern Indiana.
