James W. Barnes, 92, of Greensburg, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at the Aspen Place Health Campus in Greensburg.
He was born in Decatur County, In on March 12, 1921, the son of John R. and Edith A. (Johnston) Barnes.
He graduated from New Point High School. He then served in the Navy aboard the USS South Dakota in the Pacific during WW II.
He married Zelma L. Tichenor on January 12, 1943 and she survives.
James worked 24 years at the Mitchell Veneer Co. and then for 17 years at Delta Faucet.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church, VFW, Conservation Club, and the Lions Club.
He is also survived by one son, Arthur J. (Marcia) Barnes, Greensburg; one daughter, Nancy Jo (Dr. Charles) Baxter, Petersburg; five grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Marion E. Barnes; one sister, Lois M. Fleetwood.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2013 at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at the funeral home with his son-in-law, Dr. Charles C. Baxter IV and grandson-in-law, Pastor Jon Porter officiating.
Graveside services will be held with grandson, Pastor Tim Baxter officiating at the South Park Cemetery following the funeral. Military graveside services will also be held at the cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Lions Club.
