Ethel (Dawson) Hamilton

May 26, 1925 — May 13, 2013

Ethel (Dawson) Hamilton passed away on May 13, 2013 at the age of 87. She was born on May 26, 1925 in Louisville, Kentucky, and she was raised there by her parents, John and Omega (Fitzhugh) Dawson. She attended Indiana University where she met her husband Frank I. Hamilton. They met at the Indiana-Purdue football game (which, by the way, IU won) and were married September 11, 1948. They were married 55 years and lived in Greensburg, Indiana. Frank predeceased Ethel on August 17, 2003. Ethel enjoyed many activities, but she really enjoyed IU basketball and football. Tailgating at football games with family and friends over the years was especially joyous to Ethel. She was also involved with the Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian Women, the American Legion Auxiliary, Tri Kappa and the YMCA. Ethel loved her family. She is survived by children, Frank Hamilton Jr. (Phyllis), Greensburg, Mary Watts, Indianapolis, Blair Tucker (Bill) Indianapolis, Jane Quigley (Alan), Denver, Colorado, Robert Hamilton (Michelle), New Albany, and Elizabeth Dudley (Jimmie), Portland, Oregon, 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Mary Jean Hume, Lexington, Kentucky, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 11-1:00 p.m. Friday at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg. Funeral Services will follow at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 17, 2013 with Rev. Robert McCaulay officiating. Interment will be held in the South Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Guerin Woods in Georgetown, Indiana, or to the First Presbyterian Church in Greensburg, or to the YMCA in Greensburg.
