Walter Joseph Allen, 88, Greensburg, passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Greensburg. Born, April 19, 1925 in Decatur County, Indiana, he was the son of William Walter and Velma Gayle (Skinner) Allen. Walter helped his father as a painter, then worked in construction for several years. He then owned and operated Allen's Mill-Right Service where he sold and serviced grain dryers. He was a Veteran of World War II serving in the Navy in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of the American Legion. He had also been actively involved in the Greensburg Centennial in 1959. He was married to Barbara Claudine Manley on August 9, 1944 and she preceded him in death on January 26, 2004. He is survived by two sons, Steven Terry Allen, Indianapolis, Stanley Keith Allen, Indianapolis; two daughters, Barbara Kay Allen, Indianapolis, Rachel Symone Allen, Chicago; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife; four brothers, Elda Allen, Nolan Allen, Charles Allen, Clinton Allen; two sisters, Katharine Hall, Bonnie Holzhause. Visitation will be from 4-7:00 p.m. Friday at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at the funeral home with Rev. Dan Selby officiating. Interment with full military services will be held in the South Park Cemetery in Greensburg, Indiana. Memorials may be made to the "Walter Joseph Allen Memorial Fund".
