Mary Catherine Schwering, 82, passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at Decatur County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg. Mary was born on February 14, 1932 in Millhousen to Frank B. and Elizabeth R. (Schoettmer) Schwering. Mary graduated from Sandusky High School in 1950. She worked for many years as a waitress and a cook for Keillor’s and McCamment’s in Greensburg, and was famous around town for her homemade pies. Mary was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the St. Lawrence Auxiliary, and the Knights of St. John Ladies Auxiliary in Greensburg. She is survived by two brothers; Paul (Irene) Schwering, Greensburg, Dale (Shirley) Schwering, Rushville, 28 nieces and nephews, several great nieces and nephews, and several great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers; Ralph and Richard Schwering, and one sister; Rosemary Wenning. Visitation will be held at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 from 4-7:00 p.m. with a rosary service starting at 3:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Rev. John Meyer officiating. Memorials can be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the donor’s choice.
