Richard W. Schoettmer

July 22, 1935 — May 4, 2014

Richard W. Schoettmer, 78, Greensburg, passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at the Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.  Born, July 22, 1935 in Millhousen, Indiana, he was the son of Herman J. and Sarah M. (Wesseler) Schoettmer.  Richard was a farmhand for 19 years and then he went to work at the Decatur County Highway Department for 10 years.  He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church.  He was married to Leona F. Matern on November 26, 1959 and she survives.  He is also survived by three sons, Wayne Schoettmer, Greensburg, David Schoettmer, Greensburg, Randy (Cindy Stevens) Schoettmer, Greensburg; three daughters, Janet Powell, Greensburg, Sandra (Fred) Kendall, Waldron, Sharon (Mike) Woodhull, Greensburg; two brothers, Ralph Schoettmer, Los Angeles, CA, Ronald Schoettmer, Farmington, GA; seven sisters, Margaret Greiwe, Greensburg, Mary Ann Sullivan, North Vernon, Kathleen Berkemeier, Greensburg, Ruth Steinkamp, Texas, Virginia Wamsley, Greensburg, Lucille Case, Elizabethtown, KY, Agnes Wagner, Greensburg; 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Albert Schoettmer.  Visitation will be from 4-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg.   A public rosary will be prayed at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.  Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2014 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greensburg with Rev. Bill Ehalt officiating.  Interment will be held in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in Millhousen.  Memorials may be made to the St. Mary's Church Building Fund or to the Alzheimer's Association.
