Arnold Dellota Ducanes, M.D., 90, Indianapolis, passed away on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at the Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, IN.  Born, May 12, 1924 in Panitan, Capiz, Philippines, he was the son of Abundio and Cristina (Dellota) Ducanes.  Dr. Ducanes graduated from the University of San Agustin in Iloilo City, Philippines in 1949.  He then received his doctorate degree at the University of Santo Tomas Medical School, Manila, Philippines in 1954.  Dr. Ducanes served in the following hospitals: University of Santo Tomas Hospital, Illinois Masonic Hospital, Chicago, North General Hospital, Manila, Philippines, The Maynard Hospital, Seattle, WA, Rolling Hill Hospital, Cheltenham, PA, Lutheran Deaconess Hospital, Chicago. Dr. Ducanes served as house physician at St. Mary's Hospital, Philadelphia, 1960-1962, Kensington Hospital, Philadelphia, 1961-1962, Lutheran Deaconess Hospital, Chicago, 1962-1963, Northlake Community Hospital, Northlake, IL, 1963-1965.  He served on the emergency room staff at Decatur County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg, 1979-2000, staff President 1976, Chief of Staff 1996-1997 and board member 1996-1997.  He was a general surgery staff member of the Margaret Mary Community Hospital, Batesville, 1967-1976.  He was recognized by the Indiana State Medical Association and received the Certificate of Distinction 50 years in the practice of Medicine. The University of Santo Tomas Medical Alumni Association in America presented him the Most Outstanding Humanitarian Award in recognition of his generous and significant contributions to the University of Santo Tomas and he was honored by the USTMAAA Foundation in recognition of his commitment to the enhancement of the UST Faculty of Medicine and Surgery. He received the Certificate of Appreciation from The University of Santo Tomas Medical Alumni Association in America in appreciation of the total commitment to promoting the ideals of the University of Santo Tomas Faculty of Medicine and Surgery as a great institution of learning.   Dr. Ducanes served on the Board of the University of Santo Tomas Medical Alumni Association in America Foundation and was a founding member of Tau Mu Medical Fraternity.   Dr. Ducanes was the first Filipino to establish a medical practice in Greensburg Indiana purchasing his office building on 215 North Franklin Street in 1967 and served in General Solo practice in Greensburg from 1967-2002 and in Batesville from 1971-1976.  While practicing medicine in Greensburg for 35 years he attended to 3-4 generations of families.  Dr Ducanes was known for his quote of "Man Proposes God Disposes".   Dr.Ducanes is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marita Kewley, and four children, Marie Diaddorio, Dominic (Marie) Ducanes, J.D. (Kristina) Ducanes, Christopher (Cathy) Ducanes, nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Abundio and Cristina (Dellota) Ducanes, daughter Elizabeth (husband Greg) Ducanes Jackson, one brother, Abundio Ducanes; two sisters, Patria Castro and Edna Ducanes.  A public Rosary will be prayed at 1:30 p.m. and visitation will follow from 2-6:00 p.m. on Sunday at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home, 302 N. Franklin St., Greensburg, IN. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 19, 2014 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rev. John Meyer officiating, Interment will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, 208 East St., Greensburg, Indiana.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the 501 C(3) Arnold D. Ducanes M.D. Scholarship within the Decatur County Community Foundation established in 1997. The scholarship is for those students interested in an Allied Health Career.  DCCF, Inc, 101 E.
