Joseph J. "Joe" Lecher

Joseph J. “Joe” Lecher, 93, of Greensburg, passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at Aspen Place Health Campus in Greensburg.  Joe was born in Franklin County, Indiana on May 11, 1921 to Peter and Anna (Schulte) Lecher.  Joe joined the Army Air Force in 1942 and served during WWII until 1945.  Joe was a flight engineer for B-29 planes, where he was in charge of all engine and airplane operations while in flight, and was assigned to the 20th Air Force on Tinian in the Pacific Area.  Joe worked as a farmer his whole life.  He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion Post 129 all in Greensburg.  He was married to Elsie M. Clark on February 23, 1952 and she survives.  Joe is also survived by 2 sons; David Lecher, Greensburg, Mike (Barb) Lecher, Greensburg, 3 brothers; Ed (Luella) Lecher, Greensburg, Paul (Joanne) Lecher, Batesville, Jim Lecher, Batesville, 1 sister; Ida Nobbe, Batesville, and 2 grandchildren; Clark and Elizabeth Lecher, Greensburg.  Joe was preceded in death by his parents, 6 brothers; Leo, George, Norbert, Herman, Harry, and William Lecher, and 1 sister; Frieda Nobbe.  Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, June 20, 2014 at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg with a rosary being prayed at 3:30 p.m.  A Funeral Mass will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Rev. John Meyer officiating.  Burial and military funeral rites will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
