Urban Henry Duerstock, 83, of Greensburg, passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at his home with his four loving children at his bedside. He was born in Millhousen, Indiana on January 10, 1931 to Lawrence and Catherine (Menkedick) Duerstock.
"Urb" was a great husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was an Army veteran serving from 1952 to 1955 and was stationed in Alaska. He worked on his family's farm during his youth and continued farming and raising swine on his own farm in New Point, Indiana from 1957 through 1984. In addition he was employed at Bohn Aluminum for 41 years retiring in 1996. Urb liked to play cards and golf. He loved going to his grandchildren's sporting and school activities when they were younger. He really enjoyed and looked forward to the mornings he shared with his "coffee buddies", but the most important and favorite pastime was spending time with his family. He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church.
He married JoAnn Ethel Rethlake on August 24, 1955 and they shared 48 wonderful years together until she passed away on July 27, 2003.
Urban is survived by two sons, Donald (Jean) Duerstock, Greensburg, Gary Duerstock, Atlanta, GA; two daughters, Debra (James) Schoettmer, Greensburg, Linda (Don) Lecher, Greensburg. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Stephanie (Lecher) Bokma, Eric Schoettmer, Kristina Duerstock, Jeffrey Duerstock, Melanie (Lecher) Stone, Brian Schoettmer, and Breanne (Schoettmer) Huntington. In addition, he is survived by two brothers, Cyril Duerstock, Napoleon and Marvin Duerstock, Manchester; one sister, Helen Tebbe, Orlando, FL and eight great grandchildren.
Urban was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, JoAnn, brothers, Norbert, Kenneth, and Vincent Duerstock; sisters, Margaret Bedel and Rita Young.
Visitation will be from 2-6:00 p.m. Sunday, August 3, 2014 at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg. A public rosary will be prayed at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 4, 2014 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greensburg with Rev. John Meyer officiating.
Interment with full military services will be held in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Greensburg, Indiana.
Memorials may be made to the St. Mary's Church Building Fund or to the Millhousen Volunteer Fire Department.
