Herschel Colson, 76, Greensburg, passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2009 at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Greensburg.
Born, March 8, 1933 in Rush Co., Indiana, he was the son of James Claud and Cora (Black) Colson.
Herschel was retired from the Greensburg Community School Corporation. He was a graduate of Greensburg High School. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the VFW.
He was a veteran of the Navy serving in the Korean War.
He was married to Maria A. Gabel on April 26, 1957 and she preceded him in death on March 21, 2005.
He is survived by five sons, Ronald (Barbara) Colson, Huntley, Il., Dan (Lisa) Colson, Elkhart, Tony (Susan) Colson, Greensburg, Tracy (Monica) Colson, Cypress, Tx., Patrick (Nickie) Colson, Greensburg; four brothers, Jim Colson, Florida, Don Colson, Pennsylvania, Paul Colson, Ohio, Earl (Monty) Colson, Greensburg; four sisters, Marcile Churgovich, Ohio, Betty Ruble, Greensburg, Shirley (Bud) Mozingo, Greensburg, JoAnn (Joe) Buening, St. Paul; 14 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one brother, Ray Colson; two sisters, Jeanette Leni, Cora Wyrick.
Visitation will be from 12-2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg with Dr. Lee Riggs officiating.
Interment will be held in the South Park Cemetery where the VFW & Americna Legion will conduct military graveside services.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Decatur County Hospice.
