Edith M. Lecher

April 12, 1950 — August 1, 2025

Greensburg, Indiana

Edith Marie (Bedel) Lecher died peacefully in her sleep on August 1 at her home in rural Decatur County. She was 75.

She had dedicated the entirety of her 53 years of married life with her husband Steven, who survives, to giving selfless and loving care to him, their 11 children, 33 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

As their family grew through marriages and the birth of grandchildren and a great-grandchild, Edith delighted in visiting and supporting all of them with Steve and giving them help however she could.

A faith-filled woman, Edith was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Decatur County. She dedicated herself to daily prayer for her family and so many others and to supporting the Catholic Church and the pro-life cause in countless ways.

Edith was born on April 12, 1950, to Alvin and Rita (Bunyard) Bedel of Hamburg, both of whom preceded her in death. A 1968 graduate of the Oldenburg Academy of the Immaculate Conception in Oldenburg, she married Steve Lecher on September 25, 1971, at the former St. Anne Church in Hamburg.

She is survived by her husband Steve, and her children Cindy (Sean) Gallagher, Michelle (Matt) Scheidler, Carl Lecher, Angie (Andy) Hudepohl, Rita (Tony) Hudepohl, Alvin (Paula) Lecher, Andrew (Katie) Lecher, Mary Beth (Brian) Busken, Patrick (Meredith) Lecher, Luke (Lori) Lecher and Melissa Lecher (affianced to Joshua Sander). Carl’s wife Sharon preceded Edith in death.

She is also survived by her 33 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Her siblings who survive are Carolyn (Don) Rennekamp, Tony (Janet) Bedel, Tom Bedel, Bob (Janet) Bedel, Pete (Marilyn) Bedel, Ambrose (Cathy) Bedel, Maurice (Mary Jane) Bedel, Mark (Janet) Bedel and Marilyn (Don) Freyer. Edith was also preceded in death by her sister-in-law Judy, the wife of her brother Tom.

Edith is also survived by her in-laws Bob (Betsy) Lecher, Eugene (Patti) Lecher, Ronnie (Donna) Lecher and Gayla Lecher, a sister-in-law. She was preceded in death by Charlie and Ruth Lecher and Denny Lecher, husband of Gayla.

She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
