Joseph “Joe” Leonard Stagge, 87, of Greensburg, passed away on February 7, 2026, at Decatur County Memorial Hospital. He was born on August 12, 1938, in Shelby County, Indiana, the son of Leonard and Clara (Bogemann) Stagge.
Joe graduated from Burney High School on May 8, 1956 and soon after enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving his country for four years. Following his discharge, he made a memorable cross-country drive from California back home along historic Route 66. He later began what would become a remarkable 43-year career with Delta Faucet. Through hard work, skill, and dedication, he advanced into the role of Mechanical Engineer and traveled overseas for his work. He retired on January 2, 2004.
A man of deep faith and commitment, Joe was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, served on the Knights of Columbus Board in Greensburg, and was a member of the American Legion Post 129. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, bowling in his younger years, cheering on IU basketball, and was an avid golfer. He was also a long-time member of the Greensburg Country Club. Joe was known for his commitment to family, his steady dependability, and his willingness to help wherever he was needed.
In retirement, Joe enjoyed traveling with his wife, spending time with his grandchildren, and helping on the family farm. He poured everything he had into his family—especially his grandchildren—and always put others before himself.
Joe married Barbara Lynn (Cobler) Stagge in 1982, and together they shared many meaningful years and memories.
He is survived by his daughter, Melissa (Steven) Yeley; step-son, Tony (Susan) Brewsaugh; grandchildren: Victoria (Brandon) Phillips and Luke (Keirsten Lynette) Weber; great-grandson, Grayson Phillips; former son-in-law, Tony Weber; and three sisters: Marilyn (Bill) Nies, Norma (Thomas) Zobel, and Diana (Richard) Hoeing.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Kenneth Stagge; and his nephew, James Michael Stagge.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, February 12, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home, with the funeral service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial and military honors will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Greensburg.
Memorial donations may be made to the Knights of Columbus of Greensburg or the Greensburg Public Library.
