Judith "Judie" L. Vanderbur

April 27, 1938 — March 12, 2026

Greensburg, Indiana

Judith “Judie” Lee Vanderbur, 87, of Greensburg, passed away on March 12, 2026, at Morning Breeze. She was born on April 27, 1938, in Greensburg, Indiana, the daughter of Morris Miller and Marjorie (Creech) Firsich.

Judie attended Greensburg Community High School, and after her school years she embraced a hardworking life filled with many roles. She spent several years waitressing and bartending in her family’s well-loved establishments — The Cabin Club, The Grill, and The Four Seasons — places where she formed lasting friendships and was known for her warm personality and dependable spirit.

Of all her passions, Judie’s love for animals stood above the rest. She found great joy in raising and training horses and had a natural gift for connecting with them. Creativity came easily to her as well; she enjoyed painting ceramics, creating art, working in her flower beds, and spending time in the kitchen. Her homemade noodles became a family favorite, and her fondness for Peeps earned her the affectionate nickname “Grandma Peep.”

Judie is survived by her children: Marjorie Dixon, Maria (Thaddeus) Falarski, Danny Vanderbur, and Diana (Bruce) Swegman; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister, Janice Haskamp; her stepfather, Robert Firsich; sons-in-law, Steven Snapp and David Dixon; and her beloved fur baby, Ruby.

The family will be holding private services in her honor.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caring staff at Morning Breeze for the compassion and kindness they showed Judie, as well as to a special family friend, Suzie Rutan, for her friendship and support.

Memorial contributions can be made to Our Hospice of Decatur County and/or the Greensburg–Decatur County Animal Shelter, organizations that reflect the care and kindness she carried throughout her life.
