Richard M. “Mike” Holbrook, 79, of Franklin, IN, passed away on May 6, 2026, after a long illness. He was born on November 11, 1946, in Greensburg, IN, the son of Paul T. and Verna (Robbins) Holbrook.
A 1965 graduate of Greensburg High School, Mike proudly served in the United States Navy from 1965–1969, including service in the waters of Vietnam. During his deployment he was exposed to Agent Orange, which contributed to significant health issues later in life.
On July 2, 1977, he married Carole Morgan, and she survives.
Mike spent thirty-two years with GMAC, working from the Decatur, IL, branch where he built many meaningful and lifelong friendships. Following his retirement from GMAC, he began a second career with Fifth Third Bank as a Dealer Development Officer in Illinois, where he was respected for his honesty and expertise. He retired from banking in 2013, leaving behind many colleagues who counted him both as a trusted advisor and a friend.
A longtime resident of Decatur, IL, Mike later moved to Franklin, IN, after retirement. He and Carole enjoyed traveling the country in their motorhome, and eventually found their winter home in Arcadia, FL—a place filled with sunshine and treasured memories.
Mike loved sports and was a loyal IU fan. He was a 50+ year member of the Waldron Masonic Lodge and the American Legion. A devoted Christian, Mike faithfully served at Central Christian Church in Decatur, IL, holding a variety of roles over the years. His faith shaped his life, and he cared deeply for his family and his church community.
He is survived by his wife, Carole; daughter, Marla (Frank) Leaf of Union, KY; grandchildren, Madeline and Makenna of Kentucky, and Cody of Illinois; sister, Donna (Larry) Stutz of Columbus, IN; and brother, Jon (Trudy) Holbrook of Greenwood, IN.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bruce Holbrook, Edwin Holbrook, and Jim Bright; and sister, Phyllis Lutes.
Family and friends may gather on Thursday, May 28, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. for an open-house gathering at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg, IN. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m., with Pastor Jerran Jackson officiating.
