Robert "Bob" Lee Best Sr.

Robert “Bob” Lee Best Sr., 79, of Greensburg, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2025, at Franciscan Health in Indianapolis. Born on September 3, 1946, to Orville and Alma Mae (Clark) Best.

After high school, Bob answered the call to serve his country, joining the United States Navy. He carried great pride in his service, and the lessons he learned—discipline, loyalty, and courage—shaped the man he became. Following his honorable discharge, Bob worked at several factories over the years, ultimately finding a long-term home at GECOM, where he dedicated 25–30 years until his retirement.

Bob was a man of many passions. He had a special love for cars—especially old and antique vehicles—and he could often be found talking about them, tinkering with them, or simply admiring their craftsmanship. He also enjoyed electrical work, a skill he shared generously with family and friends anytime they needed a helping hand. Bob was the kind of person who showed his care through action, always willing to fix, build, or lend support.

The great love of Bob’s life was Mary Lynn Amberger, and together they shared a marriage rooted in devotion and friendship. Their life together was filled with hard work, laughter, and a deep, enduring bond that remained strong until her passing in 2024.

Bob’s proudest achievements were always his family. He is survived by his children, Robert (Kim) Best, Tracy (Roger) Ruble, and James (Tammy) Best; his 13 grandchildren; and his many great-grandchildren who brought him endless joy. His gentle spirit, steady presence, and quiet humor will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Mary Lynn, and his brother, Rick Elliott.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Bob’s life on January 5, 2026, at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home, with visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Franciscan Health Heart Center in Indianapolis, an organization close to the family’s hearts.
