William Francis Schoettmer, 85, of Greensburg passed away peacefully on November 23, 2025, surrounded by the love of his devoted family. Born on May 2, 1940, in Millhousen, Indiana, he was the son of Walter Schoettmer and Clara (Berkemeier) Schoettmer.
William, known to all as Bill, graduated from Napoleon High School and went on to attend Indiana Business College, preparing for a long and dedicated career in materials management. He served as a Materials Director at Hill-Rom in Batesville and later at Hoffco/Comet in Richmond. He retired after many years of hard work, proud of the contributions he made and the friendships he built along the way.
On July 1, 1961, Bill married the love of his life, Jean Ann Luken, beginning a partnership that endured for 64 years. Together they built a warm home and created a legacy of love and family that lives on.
Bill enjoyed spending days on the family farm and the golf course, gardening, playing cards with good friends and cheering on his favorite teams, especially IU basketball and the Indianapolis Colts. His wry humor and steady presence endeared him to all who knew him.
Bill was the proud father of five children: Debbie (Jim) Geis, Greensburg; Cathy (Kevin) Duerstock, Batesville; Tim (Leah) Schoettmer, Batesville; Stacey (Brian) Wagner, Greensburg and Jay (Jessica Boyce) Schoettmer, Millhousen. His nine grandchildren loved their “Pappy”—Brent (Erica) Geis, Greensburg; Kristen (Josh) Taylor, Greenfield; Jacob Schoettmer, Louisville, KY; Ryan (Raegan Smith) Geis, Greensburg; Rachel Duerstock, Greensburg; Alex (Hannah) Schoettmer, New Albany; Sally (Cameron) DeWeese, Plainfield; Anna Wagner, West Lafayette; and Matthew Schoettmer, Millhousen. Bill also delighted in watching his family grow to include six great-grandchildren.
Bill is also survived by his siblings Dorothy Snyder, Connersville; Norbert Schoettmer, Millhousen; Helen Wagener, Millhousen; Mary Jane Roberts, Millhousen and Susan (James) Buening, Punta Gorda, FL. In addition to his family, Bill will be fondly remembered by countless friends and extended family members.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Carolyn Schoettmer, his sister-in-law Mary Schoettmer and brother-in-law Kenneth Roberts.
