Our History

The history of Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home is rooted in the early funeral service traditions of Greensburg and reflects the evolution of two respected local funeral homes.

One branch of our history began in the late 1800s with William G. Schultz, whose undertaking and furniture business later became known as the Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home. Over the years, leadership passed through Edward G. Schultz, Henry Oliger, and Howard Pearson—each contributing to the firm’s growth and reputation for service.

The second branch traces back to Eugene A. Rankin, who founded Rankin Undertaking and Furniture Business in 1912. Through partnerships and leadership changes—including Paul Wenning and John H. Porter—the business evolved into J.H. Porter and Sons Funeral Home, relocating to its current North Franklin Street location in 1946.

In 1977, the Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home and J.H. Porter and Sons Funeral Home merged, forming Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home. Since that time, multiple generations of the Porter family have continued the tradition of professional funeral service, ensuring continuity, experience, and care for the Greensburg community.

Today, Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home remains committed to the same values that have guided it for more than 135 years—service, compassion, and respect for every family served.
